平面が立体になる秘密 – その ④ 重なり

When your eyes recognise an object in front and its background at the same time, you notice the depth. Layers of card with the outline of objects are making the impression of space.

「手前」と「背景」が同時に視界に入った時に、わたしたちは奥行きを感じます。折り曲げない紙でも、輪郭を切り取って何層かを重ねるだけでそこに空間が生まれてジオラマが登場します。

This is a Danish flat-pack diorama of an Arctic cave and polar bears. Three layers of cut-out cards are slotted in together to make a self-standing diorama.

このデンマーク語の解説が付いたジオラマは、北極グマがひそむ海岸の洞窟を再現しています。外形線を切り出した3枚の厚紙をスロットで差し込み、自立させました。フラットに戻して収納できます。

If you extend the numbers of layers, with folded bellows on both sides to define distances - that will make a Tunnel book which were made to represent large spaces.

この手法で層をもっと増やし、距離を与えるじゃばらの紙を両側に付けると「トンネル・ブック」になります。空間を再現するジオラマとして、ヴィクトリア朝時代に数多く作られました。
